History

Coastland FCU was founded in 1959 under the name of Humble Employees Grand Isle Federal Credit Union, providing basic financial services to a small number of employees at Humble Oil in Grand Isle, LA. Since that time, the credit union relocated to New Orleans and changed its name to Coastland Federal Credit Union. Coastland now has 4 locations in Louisiana and one in Houston, Texas serving over 8,700 members. We are one of the largest credit unions in the New Orleans area and strive to be number one in member service.

1959 The Humble Employees Grand Isle Federal Credit Union was chartered on July 13th.
1973 The name of the Credit Union was changed to Exxon Employees Louisiana Federal Credit Union on February 28th.
1981 The Exxon Employees Louisiana Federal Credit Union implemented a share draft program on September 1st.
1988 Exxon Employees Louisiana Federal Credit Union began offering VISA accounts to members on May 5th.
  • July of 1992 the Credit Union offered Gold VISA to members
  • December of 1997 the Credit Union began offering cash back on Gold VISA
  • April of 2000 the Credit Union began offering Platinum VISA
1990 Exxon Employees Louisiana Federal Credit Union offered ATM cards to members staring March 1st
  • March of 2009 the Credit Union implemented Real-Time ATM service
1994 Exxon Employees Louisiana Federal Credit Union’s name changed on March 24th to what it is known as today: Coastland Federal Credit Union.
1995 On March 15th the field of membership of Coastland Federal Credit Union redefined family membership to include parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, children and spouses.
1996 Coastland Federal Credit Union begins selling and redeeming savings bonds on October 4th.
1997 On November 20th Coastland Federal Credit Union implemented a debit card program.
1999 Coastland FCU celebrated its 40th Anniversary in December.
2001 Internet banking, known as NetTeller, became available in July. Later in August Online bill payment service, Bill Pay, was introduced.
2004 The minimum share balance was reduced to $50 for everyone.
2005 Coastland FCU evacuated in August for Hurricane Katrina to Birmingham, AL – then to Houston, TX. In September Coastland FCU evacuated from Houston due to Hurricane Rita. Then, in October, Coastland FCU moved back to the Metairie office from Houston.
2006 Houston Branch opened in August in the Greenspoint area.
2007 Coastland FCUs Courtesy Pay program began in January.
2008 Ground breaking of the New Metairie Location occurred in January. In July of the same year the Member Privilege program began.
2009 In March the New Metairie Branch OPENED for business and that same month Shared Branching began.
